'Alexandria... Archives and Libraries: memory and heritage preservation'

As part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, marked in 2018, the meeting "Alexandria... Archives and Libraries: memory and heritage preservation" will take place on June 22, starting at 9 a.m. at Teatro Thalia (in Lisbon).

The central theme of the meeting is Archival and Bibliographic Heritage, reinforcing its role and contribution to all areas of scientific knowledge, which are decisive elements for knowledge and understanding of our history and memory. The dissemination and communication of this heritage and the gathering of different contributions to the Thematic Agenda for Research and Innovation on "Culture and Cultural Heritage" are also objectives of this event.

The focus will also be on the opportunities and challenges currently facing archives and libraries, with a view to sharing among participants. The event is especially aimed at information managers, archivists, librarians and other information professionals, repository managers, researchers and anyone interested in the subject.

The initiative is organized by the Foundation for Science and Technology - Science and Technology Archive, the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education, the Directorate-General for Books, Archives and Libraries and the National Library of Portugal.
