European Humanities Conference takes place in Portugal

The European Humanities Conference (EHRC), organised in the framework of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, will take place from 5 to 7 May at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and online.

This meeting follows on from the recommendations of the 2017 UNESCO World Conference in Liège, which led to several regional conferences on the various continents and several new international programmes being implemented. From these programmes, three ongoing thematic projects have resulted: the World Humanities Report, the Global History of Humanity and an Arts and Society project.

This conference will discuss four main themes: Multidisciplinary Dynamics as strategies of Education and R&D to solve significant problems; Heritage, mobility and identities; Influence and impact of the Humanities in society; and The Humanities in the 21st Century.

The realization of the European Conference of Humanities in Portugal arises from the strong articulation between Portuguese academia and the various international unions and federations that make up the CIPSH (Conseil Internatinonal de la Pholosophie et des Sciences Humaines). The realization of this event will also encourage the development of national and community strategies in the field of the Humanities.

The organisation of the conference is a partnership between FCT, CIPSH and UNESCO, through the Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Programme.
