Portuguese Research and biomedical innovation receive diplomas in Barcelona
Barcelona welcomes Portuguese researchers today who are leading eight research projects selected as part of the "Iberian Initiative for Biomedical Research and Innovation, i4b" by the "la Caixa" Foundation and FCT. The topics of the projects range from obesity to heart failure.
The eight selected projects, with a total investment of five million euros, are funded under the protocol established between the “la Caixa” Foundation and the FCT last February. The agreement stipulates that FCT will support research projects led by Portuguese teams selected under the “la Caixa” Call , in order to match the investment that the “la Caixa” Foundation allocates to Portuguese projects.
In addition to the eight i4b projects, Portuguese researchers are participating in two other projects selected in the “la Caixa” Call . A total of 24 projects will be supported in the areas of oncology, neuroscience, infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and cross-cutting biomedical topics. The Call 785 applications, 167 of which came from Portugal.
The presentation and diploma award ceremony, which takes place today in Barcelona, will be attended by the Minister of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, and the Spanish Minister of Science, Innovation, and Universities, Pedro Duque.
