Portuguese Research and biomedical innovation receive diplomas in Barcelona
Today, Barcelona welcomes the Portuguese researchers leading the eight research projects selected under the "Iberian Biomedical Research and Innovation Initiative, i4b" of the "la Caixa" Foundation and the FCT. The projects' themes range from obesity to heart failure.
The eight selected projects, with a total investment of five million euros, are funded under the protocol established between the "la Caixa" Foundation and the FCT last February. The protocol establishes that the FCT will support research projects led by Portuguese teams selected under the "la Caixa" Foundation Call , in order to match the investment that the "la Caixa" Foundation allocates to Portuguese projects.
In addition to the eight i4b projects, Portuguese researchers are taking part in two other projects selected in the "la Caixa" Foundation Call A total of 24 projects will be supported in the areas of oncology, neurosciences, infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases and cross-cutting biomedical themes. The Call received 785 applications, 167 of which came from Portugal.
The presentation and award ceremony, which is taking place today in Barcelona, will be attended by the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, and the Spanish Minister for Science, Innovation and Universities, Pedro Duque.
