João Monjardino Award recognizes research on the impact of COVID-19 on violence in intimate relationships
In its first edition, the João Monjardino Award, under the theme "Doctor-Patient Relationship: personalized medicine and/or narrative medicine?", will be awarded to the research work "The Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on the Precipitation of Episodes of Violence in Intimate Relationships," authored by Diana Moreira, a resident physician in General and Family Medicine at USF Santa Maria, ACES Grande Porto II, Gondomar. The award ceremony will take place on April 28, at 2:00 p.m., at ICBAS-Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences, University of Porto. Participation in person is by invitation only, but the session will be broadcast online via Zoom, accessible to all.
Diana Moreira's research was published in the International Journal of Law and Psychiatry in June 2020. It reflects on the increase in cases of intimate partner violence (IPV) in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic; the impact of isolation and social distancing measures due to the pandemic on these cases of IPV; and the importance of the role of health professionals in these situations. Submitted to the João Monjardino Award, the jury distinguished this work from the other entries as the winner of the award, which is worth €10,000.
The João Monjardino Award was created in 2021 under a new protocol between FCT and the Professor Francisco Pulido Valente Foundation, replacing the previous Pulido Valente Science Award, which was last held in 2020.
