João Monjardino Award distinguishes research on the impact Covid-19 on violence in intimate relationships
In its first edition, the João Monjardino Award, under the theme "Doctor-Patient Relationship: personalized medicine and/or narrative medicine?", will be awarded to the research paper "The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the precipitation of episodes of violence in intimate relationships", authored by Diana Moreira, internist of General and Family Medicine at USF Santa Maria, of the ACES Grande Porto II, Gondomar. The delivery session takes place next April 28th, at 14h00, at ICBAS-Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar, of the Universidade do Porto. Attendance in person is by invitation only, but the session will be broadcast online via Zoom accessible to all.
Diana Moreira's research paper was published in the International Journal of Law and Psychiatry in June 2020, and proposes a reflection on the increase in cases of Violence in Intimate Relationships (VRI) in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic; on the impact of isolation and social distancing measures due to the pandemic on these cases of VRI; and the importance of the role of health professionals in these situations. Submitted to the João Monjardino Award, the jury distinguished this work, among the other applications, as the winner of the prize that has the value of 10 thousand euros.
The João Monjardino Prize was created in 2021 under a new protocol between FCT and the Professor Francisco Pulido Valente Foundation, replacing the previous Pulido Valente Science Prize, which had its last edition in 2020.
