Deadline for applications to the "Doctor AP" Program extended to February 24, 2025

The deadline for applications for the "Doctor AP" program has been extended to February 24, 2025. "Doutor AP" aims to promote scientific research in the context of the Public Administration, by granting protected time to carry out research projects and paying doctoral fees. The FCT has decided to extend the application deadline for this new program to allow for greater interaction between all partners - candidates, public administration institutions and academia - and consequently better preparation of applications, without prejudice to the fact that doctoral studies may begin in the 2025-26 academic year. Various information actions are being prepared.

Professionals from various areas of public administration, such as health, education, culture, justice and central and local administration, among many others, will be able to benefit from this program. The subsidy contracts will last for a maximum of six years. This year, up to 80 grants will be awarded to workers in the public sector

The program aims to promote a more resilient, innovative and empowered public sector to face the current and emerging challenges of all sectors of society and will allow workers to obtain a doctoral degree while aligning their work plans with the research and development strategies of the entities where they work.

The funding granted by the FCT translates into:

• Protected Time Allowance, additional to the worker's salary, corresponding to a percentage of a national doctorate Studentship , proportional to the time spent reducing working hours. Each doctoral student receiving support must benefit from at least one year of protected time, with a percentage of no less than 20% reduction in their working hours, in the first three years of support granted by the FCT.
• Training Allowance, which covers the costs of enrolment, registration and tuition fees for the doctoral study cycle, up to a maximum of €2,750.00 per academic year.
