Mário Ruivo Award – Ocean Generations promotes youth participation
The 4th edition of the Mário Ruivo Award – Ocean Generations is dedicated to the theme “The Ocean and Climate Change” and the deadline for submitting applications is September 30 (new deadline). This award pays tribute to Professor Mário Ruivo and his legacy and aims to promote creativity and awareness among young people about the ocean and the impact of climate change.
Young people between the ages of 14 and 21 are eligible to participate. They must create films lasting up to 7 minutes on the above theme, demonstrating the absolute interdependence between the ocean and climate, which is crucial to understanding climate change.
The films submitted by young filmmakers will be evaluated in four categories—Message, Creativity, Scientific Culture, and Future—and prizes of €2,000 will be awarded in each category.
Carbon sequestration, sea level rise, climate regulation, impact on biodiversity, human impact, and extreme weather events are some of the factors that are part of this Ocean-Climate nexus and that may serve as inspiration for young filmmakers.
The FCT, together with the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere, the Mission Structure for the Extension of the Continental Shelf, the Portuguese Film Archive – Cinema Museum, the Portuguese Environment Agency, and the Directorate-General for Education, is part of the Award Organizing Committee, which is coordinated by the Directorate-General for Maritime Policy.
