FCT digital services: Restoration after widespread power failure
In response to the widespread power failure that occurred on April 28, 2025, the FCT, through its FCCN digital services unit, quickly took steps to ensure connectivity and other digital services considered most critical.
Although improved network redundancy allowed for shorter periods of connectivity downtime, a failure of this extent and duration resulted in service interruptions. At the main network node in Lisbon, it was possible to significantly reduce the downtime, but not completely, with power outages between 4:13 p.m. and 6:05 p.m.
After the public power supply was restored at 8:39 p.m. on April 28, the FCT-FCCN team began checking and restoring all services, a process that continued until the morning of April 29 due to some isolated malfunctions. However, on April 28, most of the connectivity provided by FCT was already operational, as were almost all of FCT's digital services, including the myFCT application submission platform.
FCT thanks the entire community for their understanding regarding this incident and is available to answer any questions or address any needs that may arise.
