Deucalion supercomputer integrates national development strategies in the field of Artificial Intelligence

Supercomputer

On February 7, the Minister of Youth and Modernization, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, visited the facilities of the Portuguese supercomputer Deucalion, in Guimarães. The visit, which included a meeting with the team that operates the infrastructure, was part of a series of contacts established with the University of Minho (UMinho), aimed at consolidating national strategies in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The Deucalion supercomputer, inaugurated in September 2023, is managed by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) with the support of UMinho, and has the capacity to perform 10 million billion calculations per second. It is therefore a fundamental tool for the production of scientific excellence and innovation in Portugal in various fields, contributing positively to the development of public policies linked to modernization, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Deucalion is now also available to researchers who wish to enhance their projects by exploring this innovative computational resource. Applications for A2 and A3 access to Call 5th Call Advanced Computing Projects, managed by FCT through its digital services unit FCCN, are open until March 11, 2025.
