MareNostrum5 supercomputer enters production phase
The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) invites the national sectors of Science, Technology, Innovation, and Public Administration to submit expressions of interest to access the MN5 production phase by September 9, 2024. Interested parties should complete and submit the simplified form, available atexpression of interest form.
The Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC) has announced that its latest supercomputer, MareNostrum5 (MN5), has entered the production phase. Portugal holds a 5% stake in the project, which is part of the RE-C05-i08 – Ciência Mais Digital (More Digital Science) investment, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). This new milestone in European supercomputing comes after the completion of the physical and logical assembly of the platform's two largest partitions.
Applications will be evaluated every two weeks by FCT, specifically by FCCN's advanced computing services and FCT's digital services, with support from the technical team. Selection will be based on three main criteria: (1) order of arrival of applications, (2) previous experience of applicants, and (3) immediate availability for use of resources.
The technical support team at Deucalion and BSC will evaluate and validate the requirements. Each candidate may only have one approved access request, and the process will end when the resources available through the Advanced Computing Calls to run on MN5 are exhausted.
