European workshop discusses data needs for the Critical Raw Materials Act
The online workshop“Data Needs and Sources for Compliance with the EU Critical Raw Materials Act,”organized by INTRAW – International Observatory for Raw Materials, with the participation of the European Commission and several relevant national entities, will take place on April 17, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (CET).
The meeting will bring together representatives from national geological surveys, mining authorities, and the European Commission, providing a forum for sharing information and discussing the data requirements necessary for the implementation of the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), one of the European Union’s key instruments for strengthening security and self-sufficiency in the supply of critical raw materials.
The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), as a founding member of INTRAW and a member of its Governing Board, is participating in this initiative, which aims to support Member States in fulfilling their European obligations regarding data reporting and monitoring.
Among the workshop’s main objectives are an analysis of Member States’ reporting obligations under the CRMA, the identification of existing capabilities and gaps in national data systems, and a discussion of methodologies for monitoring the European Union’s dependence on critical raw materials. The initiative also includes exploring practical applications of raw materials information platforms as decision-support tools.
The program includes initiatives focused on data requirements for Member States, currently identified national challenges and capabilities, analytical methodologies for assessing dependencies, and the presentation of practical examples of data platform use in the context of raw materials policy.
Participation in the workshop is limited to invited guests, although you can express your interest using the online form. Please visit the INTRAW website for additional information about the event and its program.
