Portuguese researchers elected Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers

The Portuguese researchers Mario Silveirinha and Nuno Borges, from the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT), were nominated Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), for contributions to the electrodynamics of metamaterials and the characterisation and design of nonlinear radiofrequency circuits, respectively.

The distinction recognises outstanding qualifications and experience in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments to the advancement of engineering, science and technology, contributing, simultaneously to add value to society. The total number selected in any one year does not exceed one-tenth of one per cent of the total voting Institute membership.
