Calls for Exploratory Projects from the CMU-Portugal, MIT-Portugal and UT Austin-Portugal 2024 Programs

From December 2, 2024, until January 22, 2025, applications are invited for Exploratory Project Calls under the international partnerships between FCT and the US universities Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin).
The international partnerships, CMU-Portugal, MIT-Portugal and UT Austin-Portugal, promote Calls for exploratory projects every year, with the aim of developing disruptive, high-risk scientific projects, but with a high potential impact on the development and valorization of the scientific results obtained.
In each of these Calls, the projects to be developed are expected to last 12 months, with total funding of €400,000 allocated to each partnership.
This year's Call for Exploratory Projects of the CMU-PortugalProgram focuses on the Information and Communication Technologies area, with funding of €50,000 per project with a Portuguese institution (individual projects), and €70,000 per project with more than one Portuguese institution (co-promoted projects). For more information, see the Call page.
The MIT-PortugalProgram's Call for Exploratory Projects covers the following areas: Climate Science & Climate Change; Earth Systems: Oceans to Near Space; Digital Transformation in Manufacturing and Sustainable Cities and establishes funding of €50,000 per project (individual projects or in co-promotion). The Call page is available here.
As for the knowledge areas of the UT Austin-Portugal Program's Call Exploratory Projects, they are as follows: Advanced Computing; Nano Materials for New Markets; Space-Earth Interactions. Funding for this Call is €50,000 per project (individual projects or in co-promotion). See all the information on the Call page.
FCT supports the internationalization of the national scientific and technological community by representing Portugal in international forums, funding innovative projects and the mobility of highly qualified human resources. In this context, the launch of the new "FCT Mobility" program was recently announced, aimed at supporting the international mobility of PhD researchers at any stage of their careers, in all areas of knowledge and regions of the world.
