The MIT Portugal Program (MPP2030), launched in 2006, aims to foster collaborative research between MIT and Portuguese universities, research institutes, laboratories, and companies, promoting innovative, high-impact ideas and research projects with the potential to address complex challenges with global and social implications.
Phase IV of the Program, covering the period 2025–2030, consolidates this long-term collaboration, strengthening MIT Portugal’s contribution to the country’s scientific, technological, and innovative development, in line with national and European priorities.
At this stage, the Program aims to foster collaborative research of the highest quality, advanced training, and innovation, while promoting the internationalization of the national science and technology system and the commercialization of knowledge with economic and societal impact.

Initiatives
- Research: collaborative research projects between MIT researchers and researchers from Portuguese institutions;
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Development of joint innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives, including training programs, application-oriented projects, and participation in initiatives within the MIT innovation ecosystem, with the aim of enhancing knowledge transfer and strengthening ties with industry;
- Advanced training, mobility, and exchanges: Promoting mobility for doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty members. Advanced training initiatives, summer programs, and executive education programs are also planned.
This program benefits or has benefited from funding from the Recovery and Resilience Plan, being one of the measures included in investment RE-C06-i06 – Science Plus Training and contracted between FCT and the Recuperar Portugal Mission Structure.
