The Global Health European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Joint Undertaking (GH EDCTP3 JU) is a partnership between the European Union and African countries, established for the period 2021 to 2031. This initiative aims to develop innovative or improved health technologies to identify, treat and prevent neglected and poverty-related infectious diseases, including those (re)emerging and affecting sub-Saharan Africa.
Additionally, the GH EDCTP3 JU funds research capacity building activities in Africa, supporting researchers' careers and strengthening national health research systems. The aim is to improve the capacity of sub-Saharan African countries to identify and respond to health challenges related to infectious diseases.
-
The GH EDCTP 3 JU 2026 calls include Research and Innovation Actions (RIA) and Coordination and Support Actions (CSA) targeting projects in the areas of tuberculosis, lower respiratory tract infections, HIV-associated co-infections or comorbidities, climate and health, capacity building in ethics, regulation and pharmacovigilance and associated digital regulatory platforms, as well as digital innovation and artificial intelligence.
Specifically, the 2026 Work Programme foresees six calls covering the following topics:
- Development of new drugs for tuberculosis, including therapies and chemoprophylaxis strategies, with a focus on adult and paediatric populations in Sub-Saharan Africa
- Prevention and treatment of lower respiratory tract infections, aiming to reduce disease burden and associated mortality
- Improving the prevention, treatment and clinical management of HIV-associated co-infections and comorbidities
- Research on the interlinkages between climate and health, including the impacts of climate change on infectious diseases and health systems
- Establishment of training and innovation networks for sustainable capacity building in ethics, regulation, pharmacovigilance and digital regulatory platforms
