The L’Oréal Portugal Medals of Honor for Women in Science are intended to support advanced scientific research studies, at the postdoctoral level, to be carried out at an institution within the national science and technology system, in the fields of Science, Engineering and Technologies for Health or for the Environment.

Following the Protocol signed between the Foundation for Science and Technology and L’Oréal Portugal, within their long-standing partnership with UNESCO, a call is now open for the award of four (4) L’Oréal Portugal Medals of Honour for Women in Science.
These L’Oréal Portugal Medals of Honor for Women in Science are intended to support advanced postdoctoral scientific research to be carried out at an institution within the national science and technology system, in the fields of Science, Engineering and Technology for Health or for the Environment.

All women holding a PhD who obtained their doctoral degree less than 5 years before the opening date of the call and who do not reach the age of 35 by the end of the current year (2025) are eligible to apply.
For the purposes of this call, the limits indicated above are extended according to the number of children of the applicants (one additional year for each child), provided that scanned copies of the children’s identification documents are included in the application.

Applications, containing original scientific research proposals, must be submitted between 9 December 2025 and 5:00 p.m. (Lisbon time) on 30 January 2026 by completing the dedicated electronic application form available under start application on this call page.
The research proposals submitted must focus on the research work to be carried out by the applicant (even if part of a broader research project), with an expected duration of 12 to 24 months and a planned start date between 9 December 2025 and 30 January 2026.
Proposals involving activities that cause suffering to animals will not be accepted.
The following documents must be uploaded to the application form:
- Curriculum vitae with a detailed list of scientific publications;
- Letter of recommendation from the scientific supervisor;
- Citizen Card or other valid identification document;
- Doctoral degree completion certificate;
- Citizen Card of the applicant’s children or other valid identification document, if applicable.

The evaluation of the applications will be carried out by a Jury composed of scientists of recognized merit in the fields covered by the call.
The Jury’s decision will be communicated in writing, via email, to the applicants.

The unit value of each Honour Medal is €15,000 (fifteen thousand euros), awarded as a single instalment, and may be freely used by the selected candidate for the development of the proposed research work, for the dissemination of the results obtained, or for any other purpose she deems relevant for the advancement of her research career.
