The cofinanced European Partnership Agroecology, European Partnership on Accelerating Farming Systems Transition: Agroecology Living Labs and Research Infrastructures, represents a large-scale European research and innovation effort in supporting the agriculture sector, in its main objectives and challenges, following the agroecology approach. This partnership will be 50% co-financed by the European Commission and will last seven years. 70 partners (funding agencies and research institutions) from 26 countries will participate in the Agroecology partnership proposing to commit together an approximate amount of 60 million euros EUR. The total estimated amount available will be of 120 million euros.
Agroecology Objectives
The Agroecology partnership aims to support the agricultural sector committed to the goals and challenges of climate change, the conservation and restoration of biodiversity, as well as food and environmental security, while ensuring a profitable and attractive activity for farmers, in alignment with the rationale and ambition defined by the European Green Deal and other associated strategies.
The partnership will structure and support a network of living laboratories and research infrastructures that accelerate the transition to sustainable agricultural practices, respectful of the climate and ecosystems. To this end it will 1) enable a better understanding of agroecological processes from the farm to the landscape,2) provide locally based innovation in co-creative environments and 3) improve the flow and uptake of knowledge and innovation in agroecology.
In addition to the FCT, also INIAV – National Institute of Agricultural and Veterinary Research, participates in this partnership as a Research Performance Organization, providing in-kind contribution.
The Agroecology partnership intends to launch seven joint transnational calls between 2024 and 2030.
In 2024 the European Agroecology Partnership launched its 1st Call. You can find more information here.
