By constituting an unprecedented effort of joint investment in marine Research and Innovation (R&I) and alignment of national programs on a pan-European scale, SBEP aims to drive a fair, inclusive and necessary transformation towards a climate-neutral, sustainable and productive blue economy by 2030, while at the same time creating and supporting the conditions for a healthy ocean by 2050.
This co-funded partnership brings together 74 organizations from 30 countries that, through a common strategic vision based on the R&I agendas of the maritime basins (Mediterranean, Black Sea, Baltic and North Sea) and the Atlantic Ocean, and building on lessons learned from previous initiatives, work together to support the EU's main policy objectives, such as the green transition, digital transformation and recovery, ultimately contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.
FCT, AIR CENTRE - Associação para o Desenvolvimento do Atlantic International Research Centre, CCDRC - Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional do Centro, DGPM - Direção-Geral de Política do Mar and FRCT - Fundo Regional da Ciência e Tecnologia, are the Portuguese organizations that make up the SBEP.
