The European partnership Transforming Health and Care Systems (THCS) is co-funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe Program. THCS will support research and innovation in a coordinated way across several countries and regions, along with capacity building, networking, dissemination and other activities needed to support the transformation of health and care systems.
THCS's main activity is to fund research and innovation projects through joint transnational partnerships between various funding agencies on common priorities and topics. The partnership will organize approximately one Call for projects per year.
In Portugal, the FCT, the Agency for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation (AICIB) and the Centro Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDRC) are the entities participating in THCS.
Overall, 22 HE Member States and Associated Countries participate in THCS, including 6 regions, along with 3 non-EU countries, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States, and 1 region, Scotland.
THCS will focus on three main axes:
- To fill existing knowledge gaps by supporting research in this area with the aim of providing the evidence needed to build better health and care systems,
- Implementation and transfer of knowledge, supporting actions focused on testing existing solutions and adapting these solutions in different national and regional contexts, and
- Boosting health and care systems through specific activities (capacity building and training, study visits, technical assistance, twinning and networking) involving the different players in health care.
THCS's priority areas are described in its Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). The SRIA is a strategic document that identifies the challenges that the partnership intends to help solve, as well as the priorities and actions to be carried out. For more information on THCS's vision, ambitions, objectives, priorities and actions, see the SRIA.
