The Water4All European Partnership - Water Security for the Planet - is a funding program for scientific research in the field of water, whose ambition is to address water challenges to tackle climate change, contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and boost the competitiveness and growth of the European Union (EU). It is a partnership co-funded by the EU under the Horizon Europe program.
Water4All, which began in 2022, will last for seven years, and its objectives include providing large-scale, long-term water security and addressing water issues in a holistic framework.
Water4All launched its Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) on September 30, 2022. This document is considered the "backbone" of the Partnership, as it defines the strategic orientations of the program. The SRIA defines water-related topics for which research and innovation activities are recommended in order to guarantee access to water for all. The topics are grouped into different key themes related to the value of water and the circular economy, ecosystems and biodiversity, sustainable water management, water and health, infrastructure, governance and international cooperation.
Scientific research is therefore the focus of the partnership, as it is a powerful tool for deepening knowledge about the preservation, restoration and management of this essential resource. International cooperation is also necessary, since water does not recognize borders and flows from one country to another.
Water4All brings together 90 partners from 33 EU countries and other regions, covering the entire water Research, Development and Innovation chain.
