Call for R&D Projects Across All Scientific Fields Receives Over 4,700 Applications
The 2025 R&D Project Call for Proposals Across All Scientific Fields (PTDC 2025) saw strong participation from the scientific community, Closed on MarchClosed on with 4,746 applications.
The Exploratory Projects (PEX) category received 1,833 applications, accounting for 39% of the total, while ICDT Projects (SR&TD) received 2,913 applications, representing 61% of the proposals submitted.
The total budget for the PTDC 2025 Call for Proposals is 104 million euros, allocated as follows: 24 million for Exploratory Projects (PEX) and 80 million for Scientific Research and Technological Development Projects (ICDT).
The call for proposals attracted 195 distinct applicant institutions, highlighting the diversity and competitiveness of the national scientific ecosystem. Of the total number of applications, 2,483 (52%) are led by female researchers, and 583 (12%) have principal investigators of foreign nationality.
Applications are distributed across various scientific fields. Engineering and Technology lead the way with 1,101 applications (23.20%), followed by Medical and Health Sciences: 964 (20.31%) and Natural Sciences: 778 (16.39%). Next are the Social Sciences: 690 applications (14.54%); Exact Sciences: 501 (10.56%); Agricultural Sciences: 362 (7.63%); and the Humanities: 350 (7.37%).
