Changes to the conditions foreseen in the application

  • The Studentship is awarded on the basis of a competitive evaluation, so it is only possible to request a change in any of the elements of Studentship on the basis of exceptional and duly justified circumstances. Please check the answers to the questions below to see how you should submit any possible change request.

  • When they enter into the contract of Studentship the grant recipients agree to fulfill, within the number of months previously chosen, a single work plan with specific tasks and objectives, predominantly in a given scientific field, under the supervision of one or more designated supervisors and in one or more designated institutions, with this research work being associated with an identified doctorate awarded by a specific institution. Therefore, whenever any change is made or is intended to be made to these essential elements in Studentship research, the grant recipient must notify or request FCT of said change for consideration.

  • No. That is an element that stems from your relationship with the degree-granting institution.

  • If you wish to add, remove or change any of the host institutions, i.e. any of the institutions where your research work takes place during the Studentship, you must submit this request by email to bolsas@fct.pt, stating the reasons for such change and adding the following documents:

    a) Declaration issued by the person in charge of the new host institution, stating that he/she accepts the position and indicating the starting date;

    b) A declaration issued by the head of the outgoing host institution stating that it is terminating its function and as of which date it will do so;

    c) Statement issued by the heads of the other host institutions, if any, acknowledging and indicating whether they agree with the request to change host institutions (mentioning the institution that ends its function and the one that takes it over);

    d) Statement issued by the members of the orientation team (supervisor and co-supervisor/s), stating the justification justifying the pertinence/necessity of the request for change of host institution.

  • If you wish to change the institution that will grant you the degree, you should request this change by email to bolsas@fct.pt, justifying the relevance/necessity of such change and attaching the following documents:

    a) Document proving enrollment in the new degree-granting institution;

    b) Declarations of the supervisor and the person responsible for the host institution, stating that they are aware of and agree with the aforementioned change (note: the declaration can be individual or signed by both).

  • If you want to add, remove or change any of the members of your supervision team (supervisor or co-supervisor), you must submit this request by email to Studentships@fct .pt, stating the reasons for the change and attaching the following documents:

    a) Declaration of each new proposed supervisor/co-guidance counselor, accepting to assume the respective function, indicating the starting date and attaching his/her CV;

    b) Statement from each ceasing supervisor/co-guidance counselor, stating the reason for the end of the grant holder's supervision and indicating from which date his/her functions will cease;

    c) Statement from the other members of the guidance team, commenting on the proposed change(s);

    d) Declaration of the head of the host institution, stating the justification of the pertinence/necessity of the change.

    Important Note:

    Whenever the change implies the inclusion of a new element in the guidance team (either as supervisor or co-supervisor), it will be mandatory to identify their Science ID. This information should be sent to Studentships@fct .pt and the reference of Studentship should be included in the subject of the email.

    If the supervisor/co-supervisor has not yet created a Ciência ID, they should register it at http://www.ciencia-id.pt/.

  • If you wish to request any changes to the approved work plan (title, duration, objectives or tasks to be carried out), you must submit this request by email to bolsas@fct.pt, indicating the justification that justifies the relevance/necessity of the requested change(s) and attaching the following documents:

    a) Advisor's statement informing about the changes made to the work plan and justifying the pertinence/necessity of them;

    b) Statement of the co-supervisor(s) commenting on the change(s) to the work plan;

    c) Statement from the head of the host institution, in which he/she states his/her acceptance of the continuity of the work developed by the grant recipient after the eventual approval of the requested change(s);

    d) Draft of the reformulated work plan, in which the aforementioned changes must be clearly stated.
