Individual Scientific Employment

Candidates identify in advance the host institution where they will carry out their research plan. Selected PhD candidates are hired directly by the identified host institution, through funding from the FCT.

The following reference categories are considered:

• Junior researcher: PhD holders with limited postdoctoral research experience or without a scientific curriculum after their PhD in the scientific area to which they are applying.
• Assistant researcher: PhDs for more than 5 years, with relevant experience in the scientific field to which they are applying, without the requirement to demonstrate scientific independence.
• Principal investigator: PhDs for more than 5 years, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area to which they are applying, demonstrating scientific independence in the last 3 years.
• Coordinating researcher: PhDs for more than 5 years, holders of the title of habilitated or associate professor, with a high-merit curriculum in the scientific area to which they are applying, demonstrating scientific independence and evidence of leadership in the scientific area to which they are applying.
