Projects in all scientific fields

FCT's annual Calls for R&D Projects in All Scientific Domains seek to increase the national and international competitiveness of science and technology, as well as contribute to innovation and knowledge transfer, and to the realization of the global aspirations defined in the 2030 Agenda: United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Call for IC&DT projects in all scientific areas is held annually. The evaluation is carried out by panels of independent experts, predominantly affiliated to foreign institutions, experienced and of recognized merit and suitability, made up by scientific field, scientific area and scientific sub-area.

Calls can be used to finance one or more of the following types of projects:

  • Scientific research and technological development projects aimed at original and relevant scientific questions or concepts, using international standards as a reference, which make a significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge and which result in indicators of the achievement of scientific production during the course of the project.
  • Exploratory research projects corresponding to scientific or technological research aimed at exploring ideas or concepts that are considered to have originality and/or innovative potential.
