The firstpolicy briefs developed as part of Science4Policy(S4P) – the Science for Public Policy Research Competition – are now available for consultation. This initiative, resulting from a collaboration between the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the Center for Public Policy Planning and Evaluation (PLANAPP), is part of the“Science for Public Policy” portfolio, which aims to foster a culture of evidence-informed public policy and strengthen the use of scientific knowledge in its formulation and evaluation.

The policy briefs now available are the result of projects funded in the 2023 and 2024 rounds, developed by research teams from higher education institutions and research centers. They synthesize scientific evidence relevant to public policy issues identified by government departments through the entities represented in REPLAN, and present recommendations aimed at policymakers and public decision-makers in areas such as the environment, the economy, innovation, health, poverty, and territorial cohesion.

This publication is part of the effort to implement the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), contributing to the strengthening of the institutional capacity of the public administration and the promotion of more informed, effective, and results-oriented public policies, and is funded by this European instrument. Allpolicy briefswill be made available progressively over the coming weeks, including those related to the 2025 edition of the S4P Call for Proposals, which is currently under development.

This initiative aims to bridge the gap between science and public policy, contributing to the greater integration of scientific knowledge into decision-making processes and to the development of sound public policies that serve to build a better society.

The S4P program is designed to support the development of scientific research applied to public policy, fostering the generation of knowledge and evidence that contributes to strengthening the internal capabilities of the public administration in supporting the formulation and implementation of public policies, as well as policy planning, foresight, and evaluation, across various government sectors.
