Creation of a Large-Scale Language Model of the Portuguese Language of Portugal
Within the scope of the investments provided for in the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and following Council of Ministers Resolution No. 201/2024, a consortium of national research centers, recognized for their merit and experience in the field of Artificial Intelligence, is being supported to create a national Large-Language-Model (LLM). To this end, a collaboration agreement has been signed between FCT and Universidade Nova de Lisboa (via the Faculty of Science and Technology), Universidade de Lisboa (via Instituto Superior Técnico), Universidade do Porto (via the Faculty of Science), Universidade de Coimbra, and the University of Minho, in conjunction with national laboratories with relevant experience in the field: NOVA LINCS, IT, INESC-ID, INESC-TEC, CISUC, and ALGORITMI, which are part of the AMALIA consortium. The research groups involved also bring together experts from the University of Beira Interior and the University of Évora. The consortium is scientifically coordinated by NOVA LINCS and IT/IST. This project is based on cooperation between the entities involved, governed exclusively by considerations of public interest.
