Arquivo.pt Award

The Arquivo.pt Award is a Call created to promote the use of the sites preserved by Arquivo.pt. It aims to encourage and recognize the research and discovery of useful applications of the Portuguese web archive for society.

Arquivo.pt is a research infrastructure managed by FCT, which allows searching and accessing web pages archived since 1996. The main objective is to preserve information published on the web for memory, study and research purposes.

Millions of pages are published on the Web every day, and the amount of information that is exclusively published on this medium has been increasing rapidly in recent years. However, after a relatively short period of time, most of this information is no longer available and is irretrievably lost. The archiving and preservation of the information published on the Portuguese Web allows this knowledge to be accessible to future generations.

The Call will award original and innovative works that demonstrate the usefulness of the Arquivo.pt service, and the importance of preserving and using information published on the web. The works must have Arquivo.pt as their main source of information, and be practical applications or complete research studies based on information preserved from the web by Arquivo.pt.

The three best classified works will be awarded prizes:

  • 1st place: 10 000 euros
  • 2nd place: 3 000 euros
  • 3rd place: 2 000 euros

Call is open to all interested individuals or groups, however the application must be submitted on behalf of a single responsible person.
