The overall mission of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program (CMU Portugal Program) is to promote industry-academia relations as a driver of change with economic and social impact in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
Main areas
The program focuses on the field of Information and Communication Technology, with particular emphasis on areas related to big data processing, including Data Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Language Technologies, Data Analysis, Cloud Computing, and Engineering and Public Policy.
Initiatives
- Advanced training for teachers, students, and industry professionals through dual-degree doctoral programs, executive programs, and student and teacher exchange programs;
- Research and innovation through collaborative research projects between Portugal and Carnegie Mellon, industrial and academic partners, teachers, researchers, industry experts, and doctoral and master's students, with the aim of solving real problems faced by companies operating in the data economy;
- Industrial collaboration building a strong innovation ecosystem through close links between academic institutions, Portuguese industry, and Carnegie Mellon University. More than 120 companies are actively involved in the Program's initiatives.
This program benefits or has benefited from funding from the Recovery and Resilience Plan, being one of the measures included in investment RE-C06-i06 – Science Plus Training and contracted between FCT and the Recuperar Portugal Mission Structure.
