Open access journals and platforms are those that allow immediate and free access to, and use and reuse of, scientific articles. All articles made available in these journals or platforms are subject to these conditions. In some cases, an APC (article processing charge) must be paid to enable publication.
-
No. Open access journals and platforms must comply with the technical requirements specified in the annex to the FCT Open Access Policy.
-
An APC is a fee paid to publishers so that the article is made available in the journal in which it is published in immediate open access, i.e., making the article accessible without any gap between publication and availability to anyone.
-
Yes. Although APC expenses are not eligible, compliance with the open access publication requirement still applies if the article is published following payment of the APC financed by other means.
-
No.
Depositing in a repository ensures the long-term preservation of the article, particularly in the event that the journal or publisher where it was published ceases to exist. This deposit also prevents situations in which the intention to publish on an open access platform or journal or in a hybrid journal under a transformative agreement does not materialize, either because the article is not accepted for publication or, in the second case, because the quota available for open access publication in the selected hybrid journal is exhausted. In such cases, the article may be published in closed access, and failure to retain rights would result in their full transfer to the publisher.

Diamond open access is a type of gold open access, characterized by the fact that making the article available in open access does not involve the payment of any fees by the author, nor any price by the reader.
