Open access journals and platforms are those that allow immediate and free access and the use and reuse of scientific articles. All articles made available on these journals or platforms are subject to these conditions. In some cases it is necessary to pay an APC(article processing charge) to enable publication.
-
No. Open access journals and platforms must comply with the technical requirements specified in the annex to FCT's Open Access Policy.
-
An APC is a price paid to publishers for the article to be made available in the journal in which it is published in immediate open access, i.e. making the article accessible, without any gap between publication and making it available to anyone.
-
Yes. Although PCA expenditure is not eligible, the obligation to publish in open access does not cease to apply if the article is published following payment of the PCA financed by another means.
-
No.
Deposit in a repository guarantees the long-term preservation of the article, particularly in the event of the disappearance of the journal or publisher where it was published. This deposit also prevents situations in which the intention to publish in an open access platform or journal or in a hybrid journal under a transformative agreement does not materialize, either because the article is not accepted for publication or because, in the second case, the quota available for publication in open access in the selected hybrid journal is exhausted. In these cases, the article may be published in closed access and the non-retention of rights would result in them being transferred in full to the publisher.
-
Diamond open access is a type of golden open access, characterized by the fact that making the article available in open access does not imply the payment of any fee by the author, nor any price by the reader.
