Open Science Policies - Open Access Policy
Theses – Purpose of the Policy
-
Scientific articles, books, book chapters and monographs, master's dissertations, and doctoral theses.
-
It is important to distinguish between two situations that correspond to two different ways of complying with the FCT's open access policy:
If the author obtained their academic degree at a Portuguese institution, the latter must, in accordance with Decree-Law No. 115/2013 of August 7, deposit the thesis or dissertation in an RCAAP network repository within 60 days of the degree being awarded, thereby ensuring compliance with the policy.
If the author obtained their academic degree at a foreign institution, they must themselves submit their thesis or dissertation to a repository in the RCAAP network within 60 days of obtaining their degree.
-
Because Decree-Law No. 115/2013, of August 7, which imposes on degree-awarding institutions the obligation to deposit theses or dissertations, only applies to institutions subject to national law and cannot therefore be extended to foreign institutions that do not award degrees in Portugal.
-
